Hartley Down, Purley, Croydon

Secured planning consent for the residential intensification of a site that came with a previously refused application.

Redevelopment of a detached house site with an apartment block providing 7 flats

In a lush suburban area south of Croydon, the site is currently occupied by a 2-storey detached house. The original context with detached houses is being affected by the current intensification and residential re-developments on-going in south Croydon and Purley area. Detached houses are being extended and converted into apartments. Our Client’s intention was to achieve greater density by redeveloping the site. After an unsuccessful application by others, Rohacs Architects (formerly RnH Architects) was appointed to develop a new proposal and submit a full planning application.

As in most cases, our cooperative approach and extensive consultation with the Local Council proved to be the key in finding the optimal height and density for this site. The proposed building though visibly larger than the neighbours, it still fits into the low-rise context, with the broken down massing and sympathetic cladding detailing.

Status: Planning Application approved
