Mitcham Road, Tooting, London

Redevelopment of two prominent main road plots delivering 28 new apartments and a duplex commercial unit on the ground floor in Tooting, South London.

This proposal aims at redeveloping the sites of a tired 2-storey Victorian terrace and a featureless 3-storey post war building on Mitcham Road (A217) at Amen corner in south London. Benefitting from the potential of increased efficiency by the comprehensive redevelopment, the scheme aims to deliver a small commercial unit on the ground floor and 28 new apartments above.

The massing and elevations have been developed to visually reinstate the main features of the lost traditional Victorian High Street. The traditional façade materials are coupled with contemporary detailing that take cues from the proportions and features of historic facades in the area. The brick was encouraged by the Local Council to establish stronger visual links to the traditional facades in the wider context.
